Our History
On April 22, 1914, Alpha Kappa Lambda was founded by a group of men coined as the "Los Amigos". The Los Amigos were a group of 11 men (pictured below) to fit the "need for Christian men to have a place to live and study that was within their financial needs."

Years later, the men formed the first Greek lettered fraternity on the west coast under the letters of Alpha Kappa Lambda after our mantra, "Alethia Kai Logos", meaning the Truth and the Word.
The ideals of our founders (Judeo-Christian Principals, Leadership, Scholarship, Loyalty, and Self-Support) spread across the country. Now with 41 active chapters and colonies, Alpha Kappa Lambda has 27,000 initiated members.

At SVSU, the Men of AKL uphold the ideals of our founding fathers and chartered on March 16, 2018. It's 15 active members are making impactful strides in their campus and surrounding community. They are also the 2018 Fraternity and Sorority Life Chapter of the Year. The men plan and orchestrate the Welcome Weekend Glo-Hard Paint and Foam Party to welcome the university to the academic year while other organizations teach of alcohol safety. On top of all that, they have also raised over $2,300 and reached over 3,000 people in their annual These Hands Don't Hurt philanthropy in the past three years!
